Based on Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System, school accreditation is a strategic factor that determines the feasibility of the program in providing education for schools. The accreditation of a school can provide orientation and motivation for the school to continue implementing quality assurance and quality improvement. In addition, through this accreditation, the community can receive information about the quality of schools related to the educational process carried out. This can be attributed to the achievement of national education standards. In its implementation, accreditation activities require verification of the actual condition of the school to ensure that accredited schools can meet the minimum requirements (compliance) of the learning process. Include students, facilities and infrastructure, infrastructure, and others as requirements to increase the value of accreditation. In addition, student satisfaction in participating in the learning process to motivate learning can also be a measure. This can be achieved, one of which is through the implementation of information technology in school services.
Unfortunately, most of the existing educational institutions or schools do not yet offer technology-based services. One application that can be carried out as a technology-based service in educational institutions is the application of an e-library system or library information system. The construction of the school library itself is a complex problem because it involves various aspects and dimensions and involves many parties using interrelated problems. This is in line with the decentralization of education, the development of school libraries needs to be pursued to be carried out in stages, cycles, systematically, and coordinated. According to Law number 20 of 2003, education development must be able to increase public access to quality education to increase the distribution of education services, the quality and relevance of education as well as increase the efficiency and effectiveness of educational services. SMK Bina Latih Karya Bandar Lampung, which was established in 2003 and has its address at Jl. Sentot Ali Basya No.14 Way Dadi, Sukarame, Bandar Lampung has a mission, one of which is “Building the character of students who have a critical, creative, communicative, and collaborative attitude in mastering science and technology”. For this reason, the application of technology in library services is deemed able to help achieve this mission.
Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia sent a team to implement science and technology, namely the application of the e-library system at SMK Bina Latih Karya. The team consisted of four lecturers, namely Ajeng Savitri Puspaningrum, M.Kom, Dian Pratiwi, M.T., Erliyan Redi Susanto, M.Kom., and S.Samsugi, S.Kom., M.Eng. and five students from the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia. The system was built using the Senayan Library Management System (SLiMS) which is connected to the internet network so that librarians can more easily manage book circulation and member data collection.
Through community service activities (PKM), a team of lecturers and students at Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia implemented the e-library system and training on the use of the system for librarians on Wednesday, 18 May 2022. In this activity, the SMK Bina Latih Karya played an active role by providing the information and data needed to plan the needs needed in making the e-library system as well as cooperatively by providing input on the e-library system that is implemented and the training provided for librarians who will use the system. This activity is carried out with the hope of improving services for students as well as more effective and efficient library management.
Vice-Rector of Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia Dr. H. Mahathir Muhammad, SE., MM. said that Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia will always support the community service activity (PKM) and I hope that PKM can be useful for the schools. (Teknokrat)
