Bandar Lampung, – The Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia (UTI) continues to improve the ability of its students. This time, the best campus student in Lampung won the Newscasting Champion in the category of News Reading Competition in English.
In the EEC in Action (EIA) XIX event organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Lampung, 23-25 October 2020, Alvi Rayhan Utami, a 2017 UTI English Education Study Program student won third place.
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia, Dr. H. Mahathir Muhammad, SE, MM said, Universitas Teknokrat always motivates students to participate in activities that improve academic and non-academic achievements.
“I am very happy and proud, with students who excel at local, national and international levels, it means that the education system in higher education is good,” said Mahathir.
He said the National event was held online through the Zoom application. With newscasting participants as many as 30 schools and universities in Indonesia.
“Although it is done online, it does not change the enthusiasm of our students in carrying out activities. The infrastructure and organizational facilities at the Universitas Teknokrat support, become a factor in the birth of outstanding students,” he said.
Furthermore, Mahathir said, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the training process must continue as much as possible and on race day. Internet and computer facilities with good specs have been prepared so as to minimize the lack of competition due to technical problems.
UTI’s English Education Study Program student, Alvi Rayhan Utami said the competition consisted of a preliminary round (recording reading news), Semifinals of the Top 10 (Live report or field reportage), Grandfinals (Talkshow).
“Alhamdulillah, in the grand final, I won third place, from the beginning I set aside 40 participants consisting of several big campuses. Among them are Gadjah Mada University Jogjajarta, Diponegoro University, Central Java, Lampung University and Dian Nuswantoro University Semarang,” he explained.
It is known, Alvi won 1st place in the newscasting Lampung English Festival 2020 and a semifinalist for newscasting at the 2019 ALSA English Competition. It was carried out online and offline with the newscasting team, alumni and mentors.
“For this competition, I made preparations for one month, to prepare the News to be presented, the selection of materials, the choice of words and techniques, as well as intonation exercises,” he concluded.
In the competition, UKM TEC also received other awards in the debate branch, namely The 3rd Novice Best Speaker (Janata Shoji, English Literature 2018), The 6th Novice Best Speaker (Tania Regina, Accounting 2018) and The 10th Novice Best Speaker (Felissia Novita, English Literature 2018)
